A British doctor has uttered the one thing that could turn millions of people off from their daily coffee. According to Dr. Karan Raj of the National Health Service, insects, including cockroaches, are commonly found in pre-ground coffee beans. Because ground coffee often includes a certain percentage of cockroaches and other insects, Dr. Raj wanted people to know in case they have an allergy to these insects.

Dr. Raj shocked his 3 million followers on TikTok with the upsetting revelation about pre-ground coffee beans. After he shared the gruesome details about what really gets into your morning cup of joe, his TikTok video quickly accumulated a lot of comments from “terrified” viewers and others who insisted they would rather give up their daily cup of coffee than drink another sip of grounded up cockroaches.

The video, which was published with the caption that read, “Just so you know if you drink coffee, you’re also consuming cockroaches,” promptly went viral with millions of views. Now, Dr. Raj is letting people know the truth about coffee and how they should be avoiding it so long as they don’t want to consume bits of cockroaches.

“Pre-ground coffee like you get in most stores contains a certain amount of cockroaches. A certain percentage of coffee beans becomes infested with cockroaches and other insects,” the doctor reports. “Usually they can’t be processed out completely. So they just get roasted and ground up with the coffee beans. Most food authorities allow a certain percentage of bug parts in our food. Cockroaches are high in protein. If you’re allergic to cockroaches, I’d stay away from pre-ground coffee.”

Dr. Raj also had some disturbing information to share about the people who work in coffee processing plants.

“Some people who work in coffee processing often become allergic to cockroaches as a result of constantly handling the beans.”

When the post went viral, it accumulated more than 148,000 likes in short order. Now, the video continues to spread across the world from the doctor who lives in the United Kingdom.

TikTok users could not hold back their repulsion at the truth about pre-ground coffee beans.

“Okay, dude, some information you do not need to tell us. We are all coffee drinkers. How dare you ruin our coffee in the morning,” one user wrote.

Another added: “I really didn’t need this kind of negativity before going to sleep.”

“You’re telling me I have been drinking the very thing I am terrified of my entire life!??”

Although most people were horrified by the fact that pieces of ground-up cockroaches could be included in their morning cup, some people had a funny way of looking at the news.

“Never knew cockroaches tasted good.”

A second commented: “Nothing wrong with a little extra protein in your coffee.”

Another one of Dr. Raj’s fans added, “And they are tasty little buggies. I’m not giving up coffee.”

“Wonder if that vegan teacher drinks pre-ground coffee,” one fan asked.

Another person wrote, “Me, watching this literally with a cup of coffee in my hand like.”
